Hyunchul Kwon is an architect and a doctoral researcher at the chair for Digital Building Technologies (DBT) at the Institute of Technology in Architecture (ITA) at the Department of Architecture (D-ARCH), ETH Zurich. He also co-founded CurVoxels Design Research Group, a academic design team investigating computational design methodologies for additive manufacturing and 3D printing in architecture.

His current research focuses on the design and additive manufacturing of lightweight building components based on multi-material extrusion. This research in parallel develops novel large-scale 3D printing strategies based on robotic 3D printing and computational strategies for the design of lightweight architectural elements.

He studied architecture at Chung-Ang University (CAU) in Seoul, South Korea and The Bartlett school of Architecture (The Bartlett), UCL in London, UK, receiving a Master of Architecture in 2015, winning the Gold Track Award for the best project of the year. He taught computational design to MArch students at The Bartlett, UCL, as a visiting lecturer. His work has been publi
shed in Dezeen, Designboom and many more, and was exhibited at Design Exchange in Toronto, Canada, Esba TALM in Le Mans, France, Zaha Hadid Design Gallery in London, UK and Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany. He also participated in the project of Swiss pavilion of Venice Architecture Biennale 2016 as a member of DBT, ETH Zurich, project titled Incidental Space by Christian Kerez.
